Jacob Wilkerson signed Nov. 7 to play soccer for Itawamba Community College.

“It’s a good team,” Wilkerson said about the Indians, based in Fulton. “I feel like I could bring a lot to the team and get some championships.”

Wilkerson, a left back for the Mustangs, credits the coaching staff with his advancement to play college soccer.

“I want to thank all the soccer coaches for what they do for the team and taking me to the next level,” he said.

Wilkerson began playing soccer for Center Hill as a junior.

“He did nothing from the very beginning but earn his spot on the team,” boys head soccer coach Andrew Yeoman said. “He earned his spot and earned the respect of the team.”

Wilkerson’s father, Joseph, also spoke at the signing.

“He’s a great man,” the elder Wilkerson said. “He’s got a great heart, and I have no doubt he’ll do great things in life.”
