One option being considered is holding a traditional commencement later in the summer.

Because its statewide convention was canceled out of concern for the coronavirus, the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association held a virtual awards ceremony for the state’s high school newspaper and broadcast programs. "I urge you all to stay safe," MSPA director RJ Morgan said in a video posted to YouTube and viewed by many journalism staffs at digital watch parties.

As people self-isolate to stop the spread of the coronavirus, shoppers have hoarded toilet paper and cleaning supplies. According to cdc.gov, "A novel coronavirus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The illness caused by this virus has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)." In response to the pandemic and to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Mississippi, all public schools are closed through at least April 17.

Out until April 17, teachers, students begin distance learning.

A $350 grant helped art teacher Whitney Lantrip buy this pair of glasses for two of her students who are color blind. “That one pair of glasses changed the lives of two students,” Lantrip said. “They are now able to wear the glasses to see true colors as they have never before been able to see.”
