State organization honors journalism programs

The Pony Express and Mustang Tv were big winners March 27 at the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association’s state convention. More than 500 students from across the state attended.

In the Broadcast division, Mustang Tv was recognized as a finalist for Best Daily Newscast.

Emma Lee, senior, was a finalist for Best PSA for her public service announcement on teen dating violence.

Cyle Paulino, senior, was a finalist for Best Hype Video for his basketball hype video.

Logan Tomlinson, junior, was a finalist for Best Sports Story for her report on archery.

Ben Rickman, senior, was a finalist for Best Creative Video Package for a music video.

In the Newspaper division, The Pony Express won the Most Improved newspaper award.

Annie Chan, senior, won Best Sports Photo for her picture of Brien Kimmons during a basketball game against Corinth. Annie was named a finalist for Best Sports Photo for her picture of the Mustangs football team taking the field.

Sherrice Wright, senior and Editor-in-Chief of The Pony Express, was named a finalist for Newspaper Editor of the Year.

Kayleigh Miron, senior, was named a finalist for Best Feature Photo for her picture of Mrs. Caffee applying Logan Vandevender stage makeup for “A Christmas Carol.”

Ginny Shikle was named Newspaper Adviser of the Year.

The Pony Express was also recognized as a finalist in the News and Feature Writing category and a finalist in Online Presence for the chhsponyexpress.com website.
