Fans, decorated in red, white and blue, line the field. The clock counts down “3-2-1.” The team tears through the sign and rushes the field as the crowd bursts into cheers. Welcome to Friday Night Lights at The Hill.
On Aug. 26, the Center Hill Mustangs took on the Collierville Dragons. Senior Marshall Gaines kicked off and the game began. At the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs were down 14-0, but they weren’t going down without a fight. The defensive line, particularly Devonte Street, Jake Ressler and Jamie Hernandez, fought hard against the Dragons, but came up short.
“I feel like that game was closer than the scoreboard showed,” Mustangs wide receiver Dylan Heath said.
However, this loss did not deaden the morale of the Mustang fans.
“What really matters is the memories we make and laughs we share every Friday night,” said Emma Lee, a junior and former cheerleader. “These are the moments we will remember for the rest of our lives, not if we won or lost.”
Win or lose, rain or shine, the Center Hill Mustangs will continue to show their Mustang pride.
