The CHHS girls’ soccer team opened their season Saturday, October 26th, with two back-to-back home games, facing a tough defeat against New Albany (0-3) but bouncing back to dominate Horn Lake (5-0).
In their 1st game, CHHS went up against New Albany, who proved difficult to contain. Despite solid defensive work from CHHS, New Albany’s offense found opportunities to strike, handing CHHS a 0-3 loss. The team kept their energy up through the match, but New Albany’s relentless attacks made it difficult for the Mustangs to combat them.
“We could’ve played a lot better than we did, we just needed to connect more passes and be calm on the ball,” junior Kylie Cline exclaimed. “We also needed to get the ball off our feet quicker.”
The day’s turning point, however, came in their 2nd game. With a quick inspiring pep talk from Coach Tanner, the team took early control against Horn Lake, quickly asserting their dominance on the field. Netting 5 goals by the end of the match. The team showed cohesion and confidence, maintaining possession of the ball, shutting down Horn Lake’s advances, showing them who’s king of the hill.
