Fortnite’s new season, “Chapter 5, Season 4,” just dropped, and it’s all about Marvel and the notorious supervillain…Dr. Doom.
The Lore:
Doom’s arrival to the island came with a twist that he is The Wanderer, a mysterious hooded figure who has been roaming the Fortnite island ever since “Chapter 5, Season 3.” Betraying Megalodon (the previous Fortnite villain) and opening Pandora’s Box. After seeing the island reeking of failure, fault, and imperfection, Doom used its power to bring his hometown Latveria to the island, hoping to create a perfect society where he reigns on top. Killing many of the island’s heroes and villains in his quest to take over, Doom keeps trophies of his victims scattered around his castle like Johnny Storm’s heart, the Thing’s corpse as his throne, and a lot more. Whilst using Pandora’s power however, Doom’s armor was severely damaged, which brings us to the present day, where Doom is currently working on a new set of armor strong enough to wield Pandora’s power and finish creating his perfect society.
New Points of Interest:
Summoned by the power of Pandora, Castle Doom can be found in the Northwest region of the map. Home to Doombot, Doom’s decoy, controlled by him outside the loop, the Fortnite battle royal simulation. Once defeated, Doombot drops his Siphon Medallion, Arcane Gauntlets, and Doom’s Monarch pistol.
500 Fortnite steps to the left of Castle Doom is Doomstadt, home to Mysterio, a member of Doom’s legion. Mysterio drops his Stealth Medallion and Mythic Sovereign shotgun once defeated.
Located Southwest of the map, The Raft, which once slaved Doom’s legion, now belongs to Emma Frost, where she can be found chilling with her henchmen. Once eliminated, Frost drops her Reveal medallion and Mythic Striker burst AR.
New Mythics:
To face off against Doom’s legion, new heroes teamed up with Jonesy, have arrived to the island with new mythics.
War Machine has three mythics that can be obtained through looting epic, Dr. Doom, and Avenger chests. War Machine’s auto turret shoots in bursts of three, dealing 5 damage each. His arsenal mythic works like a submachine gun and can shoot up to 8 missiles periodically. Lastly, his hover jet is great for mobility and getting the high ground on players.
Captain America’s shield has made its return since the 2018 Thanos LTM and can be obtainable the same way as War Machine’s mythics. Though, since the release of the season, the shield now only deals 50 damage from its previous 60.
Review:
When having a season primarily focused on one franchise, there will always be those who are not fans of said franchise.
“I think it’s hard for the average Fortnite player with all the new mythics. Especially the Doom power thing,” shared non-marvel fan, senior, Jonathan Hernandez about the new season.
Perfectly summarizing the main complaint players have with this season. It doesn’t feel like Fortnite. When the game is filled with overbearingly powerful mythics like War Machine’s arsenal that requires no skill to use, it causes the game to stray away from its classic gun action that many players miss.
On the contrary to that point, many players enjoy when Fortnite strays from its classic gameplay and brings new cosmetics to the game, switching up the playing field. Especially when they are fans of said franchise Fortnite collabs with.
Marvel fan and senior Jason Yang enjoys the new season. “I like the double pistol things and War Machine’s stuff the most,” he explained. “The battle pass is fire this season!”
The End of Chapter 5:
Absolute Doom will be the last season of “Chapter 5”, ending November 2nd, 2024. Whilst the season brought a new atmosphere of weapons to Fortnite, it strays from what players really want. Classic gun to gun action that made the game enjoyable. Therefore, this season gets a 6.5/10 rating.
