The CHHS soccer teams took to the field this Tuesday, November 28th against Lake Cormorant, winning their first region game of their 23-24 season.
The girls team played first and won their 5th game of their season, crushing Lake Cormorant with a score of 6-0 at home. Freshman Mary Anderson, junior Avery Taylor, and senior Reese McNeer each contributed one goal for their team. Senior MacKenzye Brocato stole the spotlight, scoring three goals.
During the post-match huddle, coach Jena Tanner raved on her team as a whole and awarded Avocado, the team’s unofficial mascot, to the star player of the night—Brocato.
“Due to the sheer number of goals this player scored and her plays this game,” explained Tanner, “…Avocado goes to Kenzye!”
The boys finished the night off strong. The win did not come as easy, however, as the Gators netted 2 scores against the Mustangs.
At halftime, coach David Hoggat pressed the team to up their energy. “We’re not playing bad, but we’re not playing good […] guys we have to do a better job at attacking […] like I need that energy out of everyone […] Stop playing their style of soccer, you have to start playing our style.”
The boys made their comeback during the second half, securing the win with a score of 5-2.
The soccer teams will go against Olive Branch this Friday, December 1st, starting at 5 P.M..
