Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a beautiful, interactive, and magical production of one of the most famous fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers.

However, this play is not the Disney version of Snow White. This play is a little darker. The two antagonists are the Evil Queen and a green witch that helps the Evil Queen with the (hopeful) death of Snow White. There are magic, spells, tricks, jokes, evil plotting and, of course, true love.

I had the privilege of interviewing some of the cast about their latest show; here’s what they had to say.

Question: Center Hill’s Drama Department has done a lot of great plays in previous years. What sets this play apart from anything else drama has ever done?

Alyssa Hadley: What sets this year’s play apart from years past are things such as how elaborate the sets are. Gifted Art has put a lot of work into these props for us, and we can’t thank them enough.

Carrie Guy: One of the most difficult parts of learning this script is that it is in old English. We really have to get into a mindset and a rhythm to say all the lines accurately. Also, we are doing a matinee, which we have never done before.

Taylor Brasel: It’s more complicated than any play we have ever done. It’s a very well known story, so it will be difficult to bring to life on stage, especially since we aren’t doing the Disney version. We have to introduce people to the more grim version of this common fairytale.

Question: What is the best part of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?

Entire cast: (shouts) Terrance “Tarantual” Cruz.

Eduardo Vanezuela: Definitely the Dwarf scene It is extremely funny, and I’m in it, so that’s always a bonus. (laughs) But seriously, the dwarfs are hilarious. They give the play a little bit of a lighter feel when they’re on stage.

Jayla Isom: When the Queen and the witch try to kill Snow White. There’s a bit of a different approach since there are technically two villains.

Question: Why should everyone at your school and even in the community come out and see the play?

Brasel: There are a lot of extremely talented actors and actresses that have worked unbelievable hard to provide entertainment for our school and community, not to mention how much work the crew has also put in behind the scenes. It is going to be a great show whether you are familiar with this darker version of the tale or not. I hope everyone comes to see it. You will not be disappointed.

The play will be held Saturday, December 5 at 6:00 pm and Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 pm. Tickets cost $5.

Epilepsy warning: Strobe lights are used. People with epilepsy and/or who are prone to seizures should not attend.
