Center Hill Varsity Boys Basketball suffered an unfortunate loss on Friday against Desoto Central. The final score of the game was 69-59. Center Hill came out strong in the first quarter but began to lag in the second quarter, which put them behind going into the second half. The Mustangs fell short and lost their first game of the season, bringing their record to 2 wins and 1 loss as of November 13, 2015.

The players and staff were very excited for the game. In an interview before the game, Junior Carter Wardlow said, “We’re definitely a different team than we were last year. We gotta go out there and do what we’re supposed do.”

After the game, Coach Mealer had this to say about the loss, “Our star player got injured in the first half and we’re just trying to fight through adversity. It was a very sluggish home opener, but we’re ready to keep fighting.”

Senior Dan Ellington added,  “I feel as a team, we gotta play better. We have youths and they gotta step up and play harder. We all gotta play better. We all gotta step up and play harder now that a star is out. I feel, personally, I didn’t play like I wanted to. I didn’t get enough rebounds. It’s my fault. I should have played better. This gives me and everyone a chance to step up and be leaders. We can’t let this one game define our season.”

Dan Ellington went on to talk about Desoto Central as a team “They’re a great team. They wanted more of us and they worked hard to get it. We play them again. We’ll be ready. But, like I said, they can outplay us (and they did). We have to be ready to play ten times better. Most of all we gotta keep our eyes on state. All of that will come up in practice.”

The CHHS Basketball team will be at home for the Turkey Shootout on November 23 and 24. Followed by two home games on December 1 against Hernando and December 4 against Olive Branch.
