How students spend their summer break

Every student attending school has a summer vacation, but what they do during the break varies. Some stay at home while others may go hundreds of miles away.

According to TripAdvisor, the most popular rental vacation spots are primarily on the Coast. On the site, 17 of the top 25 contained coastal cities with beautiful beaches and plenty of activities to enjoy. Jennifer Mata and her family are among the many who visit one of these seaside cities.

“I go to Destin, Florida, for the beach,” the junior said.

Her favorite part of the trip is the car ride there.

“I like to look out to the window, sleep, listen to music, and eat snacks on the way there,” she said.

Some students go out of state to visit family. Daniel Xu, however, goes out of the country.

“I go to China to visit my grandparents that still live there,” Xu said.

Xu used to live in China. He moved to the United States when he was 8 years old.

“My favorite part is experiencing the culture and eating traditional Chinese foods,” he said, adding that he also gets to see his cousins and share stories about their lives on opposite sides of the world.

Xu travels across the planet for his summer vacations, but what is the most common thing to do during the break from school?

“A new poll about summer travel finds that the No. 1 thing Americans want to do on vacation is … nothing,” wrote Emily Swanson and Beth J. Harpaz in an article in the Chicago Tribune.

Eleventh-grader Justin Collins agreed.

“I stay at home during the summer and go to my friends house often,” Collins said. “I enjoy the break from school.”
