Basketball star Brien Kimmons scores 1,000 career points

From fewer than 10 points his freshman year, Brien Kimmons swished his way to scoring 1,000 points his senior year.

“Freshman year I had eight points, sophomore year I had 164 points, junior year I had 317 points and senior year I had 612 points,” the senior guard said. “All together I had 1,101 points.”

Kimmons, who scored his 1,000th career point Feb. 2 against Lewisburg, said he feels blessed to be the second person in Center Hill history to reach this mark. The first to do so was Job Vernor in 2016.

“It felt good to be the second because it’s a major accomplishment,” Kimmons said.

Kimmons had many supporters throughout his journey.

“During his time on the basketball team he had many doubters, but he worked hard and overcame all the obstacles he faced,” teammate Chris Buford said. “When he scored his 1,000th point, as his friend and teammate I was proud to see that all his hard work finally paid off.”

As a Hoops Girl, Brittany Crawford cheered on the Mustangs at most home games.

“He has grown from a small boy on the varsity team to a young man leading the team,” she said. “He will have a very successful career and he definitely should make it to the big leagues.”

Kimmons, currently ranked 26 out of 500 in scoring in Mississippi, has signed to play for Arkansas State University Mid-South.

Kimmons’ hard work has influenced others.

“He has been more of a brother to me for the past 6 years,” Buford said. “I have learned from Brien to always have confidence in yourself and believe in your abilities.”
