Area under winter storm watch

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Memphis and the surrounding areas, including Olive Branch. The alert was posted on The Weather Channel app on Jan. 10, and is active on Jan. 12, from midnight until 9 p.m.

According to The Weather Channel, “A system will move in late Thursday night ushering in rain that will gradually transition to a mix of freezing rain and sleet early Friday morning, then eventually to all snow late Friday. Ice accumulations up to 0.30 inches will be possible before noon … snow accumulations up to 4 inches will be possible.”

Any school delays or closures will be announced on local news stations and posted on the DeSoto County Schools website.

According to www.desotocountyschools.org, “There is often misinformation that is communicated via social media, and we ask that our stakeholders only trust the three official sources (the district website, Memphis-area television stations, and the district notification system).”

The school district has many policies concerning inclement weather, and all have safety in mind.

“Inclement weather policies are driven by the overarching goal of keeping students and staff safe,” Center Hill High School assistant principal Brenda Case said.
