Students travel the world with Explorers Club
If you have ever dreamed of traveling the world with your friends, the Explorers Club at Center Hill High School can help make those dreams come true.
“London has always been on my bucket list,” said Amber Terry, a senior who traveled to England in 2016 with the Explorers Club. “I was fortunate enough to even see the Queen of England, which many Europeans have not done.”
For Cynthia Stanley, a CHHS English teacher and sponsor of the Explorers Club, travel is an ideal way to appreciate history and literature.
“I love to visit the places that have influenced traditions,” she said, adding that travel also provides a personal growth opportunity. “Besides food and shopping, the new perspective about other cultures makes you appreciate America in a whole new way.”
Deborah Cowan, a senior who traveled to London with the Explorers Club in 2016, said she enjoyed the trip because of “meeting new people, the food, and the experiences you get.”
Club members for the 2017-2018 school year will fly to Italy during Spring Break, where they will explore Pompeii, Rome, Capri and the Sorrento region. Students on the trip, which is through EF Educational Tours, will learn about the history of Italy as well as visit museums, ruins and chapels.
“I’m super excited since this will be my first time out of the country,” senior Madison Brandon said. “My mom is going as well, so it’s one of our last trips together before I go to college.”
