Center Hill choir sings national anthem for 9/11.

The memories and consequences of the devastating September 11, 2001 attacks on American soil have defined politics for the last fourteen years.

But what does 9/11 mean to regular American citizens, even ones who were just two years old at the time of the tragedy?

A lot, according to Sadie White, Vice President of our school’s Concert Choir. “I thought it was a little disrespectful to have a football game [on 9/11],” she wrote on Instagram, “but then I decided we cannot let the enemy win.”

To White and many others who still feel the aftershocks of the Twin Towers falling, there was no better way to remember our fallen and honor those who have gone to war in the years since to protect the American way of life than to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” at Friday’s football game against Horn Lake.

The performance was beautifully done by the women of our Concert Choir and every note dripped with the weight of what our country has been through since that fateful day.

“By singing our national anthem on this day of sorrow, loss, and remembrance, our choir displayed the togetherness and love shown by all Americans during, and after, this crisis,” concluded White.
