Premiering back in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy has had many ups and downs over these last few years, and the ongoing question that everyone would like to know is when exactly will this show come to an end?

Back in October 2022, it got renewed for another season, and fans are dying to find out because several have the sense that it’s nearing the homestretch. Creator and show writer Shonda Rhimes stated the show will come to its end when Ellen Pompeo is ready to walk away. Fans began to suspect when season 19 came out and star Ellen Pompeo playing the role of Meredith Grey only appeared in the series for 8 episodes, which was a red flag for all.

Coming shortly after Actress Pompeo stated in her Instagram post back in November of 2022, “I am Eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you all have shown me, Meredith Grey, and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all… none of it… would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are riders and you all have made the ride so fun and iconic.”

But how can Grey’s Anatomy continue without Meredith Grey, the titular character of the show?

Pompeo explained, “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first roller coaster…you know the show must go on, and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude.”

This left a lot of fans in a loop and puzzled. Ellen was faithful and great in her 20 years with the show, and a lot of rewards came with it. She started as an actress which led to her leading role which lead to her joining Shonda Rhimes as director which lead to her serving as the show’s executive producer which lead to her even writing a few scripts for the show. Fans were truly getting to the point where they thought this show was never-ending. The show was awarded several awards and was named the longest-ongoing television show in history.

So, is Grey’s Anatomy finally coming to an end? Will it renew for its 20th anniversary? If so, how would they navigate around the main character not being present?

A lot of these questions are left unanswered, and fans are getting rowdy about it. After 19 years of faithful watching of the show, we all come to an agreement that we deserve answers.

The crew has received several mixed emotions about Meredith’s exit from the spotlight but they all support her decision and wish her the best of luck in the next project that she decides to fulfill. And for the rest of us, in hopes to be able to fulfill her replacement in our hearts and accept the show for what it is; but like she said, “The carousel never stops turning,” and life must go on.
