Baseball team, Diamond Girls volunteer with Field of Dreams
On Oct. 3-4, the Center Hill High School baseball team volunteered with the Field of Dreams at Snowden Grove. The Field of Dreams is a non-profit organization that helps kids with special needs fulfill their dreams of playing baseball.
“The game of baseball holds a very special place in my heart, and that, along with the emotions, the smiles and the love that we shared those two nights mean more to those kids than we will probably ever know,” head baseball coach Neil Frederic said. “I know this experience touched our guys’ hearts. All of those kids accepted us with open arms, and we made a memory that we will never forget.”
Assistant baseball coach Cole Harris was also affected by Field of Dreams.
“Every day I am able to do the things I love, such as baseball, without being hindered by any type of disability,” he said. “It is very easy to take that for granted. Field of Dreams is a blessing for everyone involved.”
Freshman baseball player Jacob Miles agreed.
“Half of us don’t know how blessed we are to not have the disabilities that those kids are facing every day,” Miles said. “Those kids touched my life forever, and I am very thankful for this experience.”
The CHHS baseball players were not the only ones to go out and support the Field of Dreams. A group of the Center Hill Diamond Girls attended and sat in the stands to cheer the players on.
“I’m very proud of our baseball team for showing so much compassion in our community,” said junior Diamond Girl Brooke LeGrow. “It was so much fun to see the kids enjoy their night with our team. Being there to support and cheer on the kids was the highlight of my week.”
