The Center Hill girls basketball team has recently been playing better. This was demonstrated by the 53-42 win against New Albany on December 11. New Albany was the team’s first game and first loss of the season.
The team now is 7-7 and has won six out of their last eight games, and Coach Petty believes that the last couple of wins greatly motivated the team.
“I am really proud of our team captain, Kirmesha Oliver, and the leadership she brings to a very young group,” says Coach Moore. Kirmesha Oliver has been playing with a torn ACL, but still lead the team on Friday with 19 points.
He is also excited about the team’s potential and stated that the team is extremely young and athletic.
Contributing to the team are the junior leaders: Kalexis Judge, Adajah Smith and Danielle Hopkins. Sophomore Carrington Kneeland added to the win against New Albany with 12 points. Additional help is coming from a myriad of sophomores: Ariel Tunstall, Jada Spratt, Vicky Dailey, and Niyah Odum. The only freshman that has started several varsity games is Kaylan Morris, and she is playing with a back injury.
Coach Moore asserts, “They are a scrappy bunch that play hard and will only get better with experience as the season goes on.”
Both Coach Moore and Coach Petty believe the girls are improving and will continue to win more games. Coach Petty declares, “We have a great groups of girls who I feel will continue to get better throughout the season.”
