On October 20 Center Hill High School hosted the 2015 Odis McCord Desoto County Cross Country Championships. Seven schools from Desoto County participate in the race: 66 girls and 96 boys race for a total of 152 athletes. The Hernando girls won the title in just their second year of starting their program and the Hernando boys repeated as Champions.
The CHHS Cross Country team had an impressive finish with the Lady Mustangs placing second and two ladies finishing in the top seven to earn all county honors: 3rd overall Sophomore Jamyah Graham, and 7th overall Freshman Abigail Penfield.
The boys team placed 5th with notable times from junior Garrett Dunning and sophomore Drew Ashley.
Coach J.J. Downs is proud of the team and stated, “These kids on the 2015 team are awesome. They come to work each day and have fun. They are a team/family. I can’t say enough about how they have embraced and supported Jonathan Cobb. We have some amazing kids here at the school.”
In a heart-warming moment near the end of the race, participants from all schools joined in running with Jonathan Cobb to cheer him on to the finish line.
The next meet for the team will be on October 31 in Saltillo.
