Lewisburg and Center Hill face off in the football Battle of the Branch every year. The classic hometown rivalry game is always an exciting time to cheer on the Mustangs.
“Loserburg”, the Hill’s competitive nickname for their rival, is located a few hundred feet away from a field of corn. So, the pep rally activities are always a funny sight. This year’s pep rally seemed even more hyped than previous years, but then again, detailed planning by admin always shows through in these types of events.
A Center Hill pep rally wouldn’t be complete without fun filled games, of course. A corn toss, human table race, grade dance battle, and annual spirit stick competition were all the activities featured in this year’s rally.

After the gymnasium lit up with the light of hundreds of phones for the varsity football team’s entrance, the festivities kicked off with an exciting corn toss. Teacher competitors were split into teams of two on opposite sides of the gym.
Slippery, buttered cobs of corn were then tossed between the players as the distance for the toss increased with each successful catch. The ultimate victors were baseball coaches Peyton Callahan and Justin Medlin.
Next was the human table race. Teachers and each grade had teams of five, four rollers and one rider. The rollers’ purpose was to lay down belly up underneath the table and roll their bodies to move the table that carried the rider to the end of the obstacle course.
The teachers, who picked up and carried their table with their rider, rather than rolling like the game suggests, gained an undeserved win. In the end though, no grade came close to second place, as all teams respectively fell apart by the time they reached half court.
Games weren’t just the only form of entertainment, as the drama department put on a short comedy skit. Initially just an unsuspecting farmer watering his corn field, the skit shifts as the music changes when the Mustang mascot appears to chop the fields. showcasing the Mustang’s future triumph over the Lewisburg corn farmers.
After which, the next event of the morning took place. A dance competition between all grades was underway. Each grade had a teacher representative to dance along with them to a short, choreographed music clip.
The winners came down to the junior and senior classes but the ultimate victor was decided by the spirit stick contest. The cheers of the Mustang Battle Cry, victory spelled out, could be heard from all corners of the gym. Seniors took home the spirit stick and, in turn, won the dance battle.
