In preparation for the new 24-25 school year, Center Hill High School has welcomed many new teachers, including Katie Hogan, one of the new English teachers.
Hogan, a returning Mustang, comes from a family of educators; her mother is a teacher, along with several other family members on both sides of her family tree. Witnessing the impact teachers can have on students inspired Hogan to pursue teaching.
Hogan herself has been a teacher for 4 years, 3 of which were at Starkville High School. She attended Mississippi State University, participating in the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program, a scholarship that covers all college expenses in exchange for teaching in Mississippi for five years. She is currently in her fourth year of this commitment.
So far, Hogan has enjoyed her time at Center Hill High School, praising her coworkers, administration, and the school’s culture. She especially appreciates the students.
Hogan wants her students to remember that nobody cares more about them than they do themselves, so their insecurities are often unnoticed by others.
Cynthia Stanley, one of Hogan’s high school teachers, inspired Hogan to be a better teacher. “She was just really good at her job, despite it being really tough,” Hogan recalled.
Hogan states she would love her teaching style to resemble Mrs. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. While she acknowledges she isn’t exactly like Mrs. Frizzle, she believes she comes the closest compared to other fictional teachers.
Hogan is excited to be back at Center Hill and is eager to see what the future holds for her and her career.
