Spanish Club explores language, culture, customs

At Center Hill, a large part of who you are comes from the clubs and sports you are in. Your hobbies are what define you. Male or female, freshman or senior, everyone is brought together by the clubs they are involved in.

One of the most unique clubs Center Hill has to offer is the Center Hill Spanish Club. Spanish Club is sponsored by Ashlee Young, who also teaches Spanish at Center Hill. Spanish Club meets once a month, and members go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant as a group. The only catch? Members are told to order only in Spanish.

“I love the opportunity to come together with other people who love learning a new language,” club vice president and senior Destini Ellis said.

Club president and senior Paris Walton agreed.

“I love Spanish and Spanish culture,” Walton said, which is why she first joined Spanish Club.

Although Spanish Club is primarily a social club, the group also donates to Heifer International, a non-profit organization that helps the poor around the world.

Spanish Club is having a fundraiser at Marco’s Pizza on Oct. 16. Students are asked to come out and support them as they explore the Spanish language.
